Eric the Giraffe

Another bubba, another "softie"… met Eric the Giraffe, he's a strapping young fellow made with love and hugs for our new nephew - Little A.

The pattern was from one of the Japanese craft books I bought a while back - Nuigurumi Style: Animal Fabric Doll Pattern Book. Like all of the JP craft books I bought there are no English instructions but the visual instructions are great!

Strawberry the Bun-bun

I've finally made Little P her first "softie", it's a bun-bun (bunny) named "Strawberry"; he's nice and roly-poly and has ears just the right length to chew on!

The pattern was a freebie from the *very* talented crafter Hilary Lang at Wee Wonderful (checkout all the great softies she's made).

How to play without breaking the bank...

As a new parent, it is very difficult to know what to do with bub - what "games" are appropriate at what age, what activities will help stimulate and develop your baby at an age appropriate rate and how to do it all without breaking the bank!

Here are some fun, non-expensive things to make and do for newborns to 5 year olds....

Dressing potatoes....

The origins of the potato salad can be traced back to the 16th century….

Early potato salad: John Gerrard in 1597 writes about potatoes and their virtues and said that "they are sometimes boiled and sopped in wine, by others boiled with prunes, and likewise others dress them (after roasting them in the ashes) in oil, vinegar and salt, every man according to his own taste.

However they be dressed, they comfort, nourish and strengthen the body." ---Edgewater Beach Hotel Salad Book, Arnold Shircliffe [Hotel Monthly Press:Evanston IL] 1928 (p. 231)

Anyhow here's how I dress my potatoes..."Country Potato Salad" ;-)
